I got sound when playing a CD in my computer, though. I also got Windows sounds (Win2000). I'm pumping sound from my GTXP soundcard via coaxial. I suppose most of the problems come from the plug not being able to handle me upgrading winamp (now at 2.81). I could be wrong, but anyways, some folk say 'this has artifacts or this doesn't have artifacts' but really it might be something more like your computer setup or winamp version etc. If this doesn't work for you try Pacemaker. Best mp3 player for very old (Win95 8MB ram) laptop

OK, here's a question for the other old timers like myself. I was throwing out this really old laptop but a kid in my street wants it so I'm giving it to him instead. He mostly just wants it to play mp3's so I'm looking for an mp3 player that can run ok on a really old computer. It's an old Pentium1, no mmx and I'm not sure of the speed but I'm sure it's 100MHz or less. It's only got Win95 with 8MB ram.
So the question is, what's the best mp3 player to use for such an old piece of shit?
BTW. Here's what I've tested so far.
- I tried Winamp 2.64 (that was the oldest version I had tucked away on my harddrive) but it wouldn't even open.
- I downloaded Winamp 1.00 from oldversion.com and it runs ok, he could use this one but there is no playlist support. Any other suggestions of what else to try.
